Happiness and Authenticity: Quote Of The Day
by Satu Korby, LPC on October 12th, 2013

"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you really need to do, in order to have what you want."
―  Margaret Young

This quote is fantastic. It is exactly what I have learned in the years I have been involved in psychotherapy and counseling, whether it be in graduate school, with my clients, in my training, or in my own life.

I read this quote in the book "The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who Think You're Supposed To Be and Embrace Who You Are" by Brené Brown. I am sharing it today because this fits exactly what I believe and the way I have been working with clients for years. I hope you read it and it helps you as much as this concept has helped me.

Have a fantastic day!
